Leo is an astrological sign, which is associated with the constellation Leo. Under the tropical zodiac, Leo is occupied by the Sun from July 23 to August 22, and under the sidereal zodiac, it is currently from August 17 to September 16. The opposite sign to Leo is Aquarius. The glyph for Leo represents the mane of the lion. The corresponding month in the Babylonian calendar is Abu.
Mythology
In mythology Leo is often associated with the Greek myth of the Nemean Lion which was killed by Hercules during one of his twelve labors, and subsequently put into the sky, as well as the mythological figure of Penelope, from the Greek myth of the Trojan War. Leo is also associated with the Greco-Roman god Apollo and sometimes also the gods Helios/Sol, Ra, and Huitzilopochtli and the goddess Sunna.
Charactistics
Individuals born under this sign are thought to be very dignified, regal, determined, loyal, protective, adoring and traditional. Leos are hard-working, ambitious, determined, talented, love the lime light, joyful, extroverted, generous, and enthusiastic.[2] However they are prone to laziness, stuborn, over dramatic, pefectionst, hypersensitive, selfish, stingy, control issues, insensitive, egostical, crave luxury, conceited, coldness, fickle, cruel, and can often take "the easy way out."
Fiery determination and the desire to be important often rule their lives. They usually pursue their goals doggedly and use their charisma to sway others to their cause. Open and honest, Leos tend towards the philosophical and tend to hold great idealisms about how things should be.
Under a Fixed sign, They are often resistant to imposed changes, and tend to hold onto people and situations for a long time.
Leos, like the Lion they are named after, are thought to be born leaders, with charisma, enthusiasm and determination. They do well under pressure and are good at defusing crisis situations.
They are often lovers of the finer things in life. They are associated with gold, jewelry, fashion, luxury items and adornment. Because of their creative nature, they tend to not stick with the boring and mundane, and look for excitement in life.
The downside to a Leo is usually their pride. Due to this, they are sometimes prone to being conceited, jealous, self-centered, snobbish, boastful, overbearing with a disdain for those under them.
Due to their positive nature, they can be gullible and tend to believe the best will happen. When it doesn't, they are prone to depression, may react badly to affronts and could be deeply hurt by malice and hostility. If faced with negative situations Leos are also known to react with extreme confidence, which can get them into even more trouble.
In astrology Leo is ruled by the Sun.
The Indian equivalent of Leo is Simha; the Chinese equivalent is the Monkey.

Relations with other element signs
Fire signs are supposedly impatient with less extroverted people, especially earth signs, who they believe are extremely manipulative and will smother the fire of life. They are believed to resent the earth signs' slowness, plotting and preoccupation with detail, and hate the way they pin others down. They supposedly can be attracted to water signs' passion and intensity, but generally find water signs too secretive – in fact to the point of seeing the water signs' sensitivity as utterly dishonest and deliberately deceitful. They might envy the water signs' ability to summon strength from emotions rather than through effort, their general means of acquiring power. Air signs, on the other hand, are seen by the fire signs as able to provide them with concrete ideas to help them develop their ideals. Because air signs share their gregarious, extroverted quality, fire signs are comfortable with them. However, they supposedly do not have the patience to analyse as many possibilities as the air signs would like, so they supposedly act more quickly than air signs might wish.
Exaltation
Leo is reputed barren, being the house of the Sun, and Lyons bring forth Young rarely.
