Franz Harary, Ger Copper and other masters of illusion will hold audiences spellbound at Pattaya's first-ever international magic festival in October.

The festival kicks off on October 17 and offers eye-popping shows on both street and stage until October 21.

"The Pattaya Magic Festival is the first of its kind in which world-class magicians like Franz Harary will perform in Thailand," says organiser Phairot Ithiarwatchakul. "The festival promises fans a large dose of entertainment and amazement.

"Harary, for example, can make Koh Lan, the offshore island, disappear in the blink of an eye."

American Harary is one of the world's greatest illusionists, known for his trademark disappearance of city landmarks.

Recently, he made the Sphinx in Egypt and the Taj Mahal in India vanish. He will be performing at the Alangkarn Theatre on October 20 and 21.

Joining Harary are award-winning Asian magicians like Lupin, who can change hisi appearance in a second; Lio Xiao Run, the card master; and recognised romantic illusionist P J Wen.

Amateur magicians can also take part in competitions at the Central Festival Centre between October 17 and 19.

"The competition should get a good response from Asian magicians," says Phairot. "There are more than 10 magicians from South Korea alone."

Spectators who want to replicate tricks can purchase magical equipment at the festival.

Shows between October 17 and 19 are free, but tickets for the Alangkarn performances on October 20 and 21 cost Bt500, Bt800 and Bt1,000.

Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Redemptorist Foundation for People with Disabilities.
