Why Did I Get Married?


Why Did I Get Married? is a film adaptation written and directed by Tyler Perry, which was inspired by the play of the same name. The movie stars Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Sharon Leal, and Perry himself. The film was released in the United States on October 12, 2007.

The film is the third film that Tyler Perry has directed and the fourth film he has written.

Plot

The film is about the difficulty of maintaining a solid relationship in modern times. Eight married college friends plus one other non-friend go to Colorado for their annual week-long reunion, but the mood shifts when one couple's infidelity comes to light. Secrets are revealed and each couple begins to question their own marriages. Over the course of the week, the couples battle with issues of commitment, betrayal and forgiveness and examine their lives.

Gavin blames Patricia for the death of their son, Noah, who died in a car accident. Mike is cheating on Sheila with her friend, Trina. Diane got her tubes tied after the birth of their daughter, Kenya, and Terry got Kenya tested to make sure that she was his. Marcus thinks he got an STD from his children's mother, Keisha -- but Angela got an STD from Walter, a guy she had an affair with, and gave it to Marcus.

Critical reception

The film was not screened in advanced for critics. As of October 13, 2007 on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, 36% of critics gave the film positive reviews, based on 11 reviews. On Metacritic, the film had no average score because only 1 review had been tabulated.
